Firstly, anyone can benefit from therapy, however, everyone's individual experience is different, therefore, I work collaboratively with you to create a shared understanding of what you are experiencing, why it is happening and what is maintaining it, in addition to ways of coping and giving you tools and strategies to manage it. Although everyone is different, I have detailed below the most common problems I work with. This is not an exhaustive list so if your problem is not listed below, please book a free consultation to discuss if it is an area where I can support you. Working as a team, we will explore your difficulties at a pace that feels right for you.
Have you been feeling constantly anxious or overwhelming? Is it affecting your daily life? Do you have frequent or uncontrollable worries about "anything and everything". Often worrying about the future and usually the worst case scenarios?
Are you feeling overwhelmed or unable to cope with mental or emotional pressures? Is your stress too much or causing negative effects? Are you left in a permanent state of fight or flight, overwhelmed or unable to cope?
Have you been dissatisfied or unhappy with yourself on the whole? Do you ever feel you are not good enough, inferior, useless, worthless or a failure? Do you place a negative value on yourself as a person?
Are you constantly experiencing feelings of sadness, loss of interest or lack of motivation? Are you experiencing feelings of lethargy as though even the smallest of things is too much effort? Do you have negative thoughts about yourself, others and the world around you and often get stuck in ruts of overthinking or dwelling on things?
Are you experiencing sudden acute attacks of panic or fear? Is it happening regularly, at any time and often out of the blue? Do you fear at the time you are going to die, have a heart attack or faint? Do you fear the next onset of a panic attack so started to not go out or avoid certain things to help prevent these attacks from potentially happening again?
Do you have an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal?
Do you feel you have an exaggerated or unrealistic sense of danger about a situation or object? Do you find the anxiety is only present when presented with or having the possibility of being presented with the feared stimuli?
Are you spending so much time worrying about your health, thinking you're seriously ill that it is taking over your life? Are you engaging in behaviour such as, checking symptoms or body, googling symptoms or going to the GP for reassurance (which usually is short lived feeling of relief)?
Have you been exposed to a stressful, frightening or distressing event? Are you often reliving the traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks? Do you feel isolated, irritable, angry, ashamed or guilty? Are you having unwanted intrusive memories about what happened?
Are you experiencing unwelcome thoughts, images, urges, worries or doubts that repeatedly appear in your mind? Are they making you feel very anxious and distressed? Are you engaging in repetitive activities to reduce the anxiety caused by those unwanted thoughts such as repeatedly checking a door is locked, repeating a specific phrase in your head or checking how your body feels? Intrusive thoughts can be around cleanliness and contamination or can often be thoughts which are opposed to our values or beliefs. They can be of a sexual, violent nature and can be inappropriate.
